After spending 4 hours at the mall looking for curtains for the house its time to leave because my 04 Titan with the bubbling bed liner was ready for pick up at the authorized repairer which turned out to be a Rhino installer. They are about ready to close and I needed to pick it up before 5 pm. I am in my true baby a 91 300ZX and if anyone is familiar w/Clarksville TN I am the lead car turning left onto Wilma Rudolph next to Rafferty’s (we ate there for lunch by the way, very greasy food). I have a Maroon Expedition on my right, turning right, pulled a little bit ahead getting ready to turn and we are all at a stop light. I look in my rear view mirror and point out to my wife that the car behind me is up my A— so I pull up a little so I don’t roll back. We then hear a loud screech and I look up and a white mustang is sliding out of control towards the Expedition which was waiting to turn right. The mustang took the turn too fast and hit the driver’s door of the SUV slides down the side and stops about a foot into my right front fender. He pushed in my bumper and my fender to the tire. He then starts to yell something to the SUV puts the car in reverse and takes off down the street. As he starts to take off I notice a police car is right behind him with the lights on and no siren. Apparently the cops were chasing this guy. So now I am one of those people you see on T.V. about that are innocent victims of car chases. The SUV driver later told us the Mustang driver was screaming at her to back up. So I sit in the left turn lane unable to move my car blocking the lane. I wait a while for cops to show and no one does we wait about ten minutes and then I get out and use my tire wrench to pull the car away from my tire and move to a less crowded area. The cops never showed we had to call 911 and wait for them to come out. It was about 45 minutes from the accident time. I’m sure the cop in pursuit saw him hit us; he had to have seen the car back up After the cop does his thing I am off to get the Big Green Titan. The shop is closed but I called ahead and they leave the keys under the seat. I have to say that if I know then what I know now I would have left the bubbles. My bed liner looks like crap. Apparently it cost $1900 to replace the entire liner so they only replaced the center piece (It was out of warranty). The material they used was not Rhino but a “Nissan” replacement. It is slick; it doesn’t seem to be any roughness to it at all. Its shiny black and the rest is dull. Also there was some bare metal spots which I am sure I am going to have to drop it back off to fix. I wish they had told me that the cost was an issue and they would only do the center. So today cost me 4 hours at the mall, $200 for the curtains, $500 deductible, my 300ZX looks like crap, my truck liner looks like crap, 1.5 hours with the cops, $6 for the police report, and 4.5 hours at the hospital (neck is kinda sore) and my questions are. The cops were in pursuit w/out sirens and they left us on the street. I am not looking to sue any crime fighters but is this right? My brother is a cop in Kansas and he’s saying to sue because they weren’t following procedure and I could have been seriously injured especially if no one came to check on us and they are required to have the sirens running during a pursuit. Also my truck’s resale value just dropped because I have a crappy looking bed liner. Can I do anything there? Any ideas would be helpful. Hope 2007 has more to offer me than the last days of 2006. Happy New Years!!!
